Recipe for a cough

After plenary session today one of the Chinese teachers brought me a bottle of cough medicine. She is concerned that my cold, now waning, has kept me coughing. She was kind enough to give me a translation. We’ve tried it in hot water and it’s very good – but you might enjoy the translation. And understand why we are teaching English here.

Autumn Pear Grease

Burdening: pear, honey, crystal sugar, high fructose corn syrups, honeysuckle, lotus seed, chrysanthemum, malt, hawthorn, liquorice, ginger. (If any of you can’t eat some of the things above you can tell from here.)

Store it in a cool dry place.

Quality guarantee period: 2013-03-26 --- 2014-09-16

The way to use: put it in to warm water or add water (even milk if you want) in the proportions of 1:8 (1 grease & 8 water) in fact no need to be so stiff.

Function: heat – clearing

Good for your throat and lungs

Please keep your throat, so that we can hear more dulcet songs.

I am quite confident that this will note only cure my cough and give me heat, but also give me more dulcet songs. And now I need a dictionary…
